For handgun hunters running magnum-class platforms, 50 Action Express ammo in the 300 grain Hornady XTP configuration delivers the energy and penetration required to anchor medium to large game at handgun ranges. Underwood loads this cartridge to 1580 fps from a typical 6-inch barrel, generating 1663 ft-lbs of muzzle energy — a figure that places it in the upper tier of semi-automatic handgun hunting loads. The eXtreme Terminal Performance bullet features a swaged lead core and thick jacket walls designed to maintain weight retention through heavy bone and tissue while expanding reliably across a range of impact velocities.

Nickel-plated brass cases resist moisture and handling corrosion better than raw brass, and they cycle smoothly in semi-automatic actions. The flash-suppressed powder formulation limits muzzle flash in low-light conditions — a practical consideration for hunters working dawn and dusk hours. Cases are boxer-primed and reloadable for shooters who handload. Browse our full selection of 50 AE ammo for additional load options and bullet weights.
