The Trijicon RMR Type 2 is a reflex mini red dot designed for shooters who mount optics on reciprocating slides, AR-platform uppers, and precision pistol builds. Trijicon engineered the Type 2 housing to absorb recoil impulse and redirect stress away from the window—a patented geometry that keeps the glass intact under slide-ride duty cycles. The 1.0 MOA dot (RM09 variant) is the smallest reticle Trijicon offers in the Adjustable LED lineup, giving you a fine aiming point for distance work on carbines or long-slide pistols. If you’re running a Glock MOS, Springfield OSP, Walther PDP, or H&K VP9 Optics Ready platform, you’ll need the Trijicon AC32064 mounting kit—the RMR does not ship with adapter plates.

Behind the Glass

Trijicon writes RMR for Ruggedized Miniature Reflex. The Type 2 shares the same footprint as the original Type 1, so legacy mounts and slide cuts remain compatible. What changed: upgraded electronics, a redesigned LED emitter, and button logic that locks out inadvertent brightness adjustments. You can toggle between manual brightness (eight daylight settings, two night-vision settings) and automatic mode, which uses an ambient light sensor to match dot intensity to your surroundings. In manual mode, the optic holds your chosen brightness for 16.5 hours after the last button press, then defaults back to automatic—insurance against a dead battery if you forget to power down. A button lockout function prevents accidental mode changes during carry or competition.

The 1.0 MOA dot suits shooters who need precision at distance—50-yard pistol strings, 200-yard carbine work, or hunting shots where holdover calculation matters. For faster target transitions inside 25 yards, Trijicon also chambers the RMR Type 2 in 3.25 MOA and 6.5 MOA variants. All Type 2 models ship with the same electronics package and battery life (approximately four years on setting 4). Matching It to Your Build

If you’re milling a slide or installing an optic plate, verify RMR-pattern compatibility before ordering. Factory optics-ready pistols from Glock (MOS), Springfield (OSP), Walther (PDP), and H&K (VP9 Optics Ready) require the AC32064 adapter kit—Trijicon does not include it with the optic. Aftermarket slide cuts labeled “RMR footprint” typically accept the Type 2 without shims, but measure screw-boss depth and confirm fastener length with your machinist. The RMR ships with two 6-32 Torx screws; Trijicon specs 12-15 inch-pounds of torque for direct mount, 18 inch-pounds when using a sealing plate.

For duty or daily carry, run the optic in automatic mode and enable button lockout. For competition or range work where you dial brightness per stage, manual mode holds your setting through the entire match day. The CR2032 battery loads from the top—no need to remove the optic or re-zero when swapping cells. Trijicon recommends an annual battery change regardless of runtime to avoid mid-string failures.

Safe Handling & Compliance

All firearms and firearm accessories sold by Tatted Tacticals are subject to federal, state, and local laws. Verify that your optic mount and intended platform comply with applicable regulations in your jurisdiction before installing. An optic does not replace the four rules of safe gun handling—treat every firearm as loaded, keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire, never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy, and be certain of your target and what lies beyond it.

  • Confirm zero after installation and re-check after the first 100 rounds.
  • Store the optic with the battery removed or in automatic mode to preserve runtime.
  • Use only the fasteners and torque specifications provided by Trijicon or your slide manufacturer.
