The Trijicon RMR Type 2 with 1.0 MOA dot is a slide-mounted reflex optic built for shooters who demand precision at extended ranges. Trijicon engineered the RMR housing with a patented shape that absorbs impacts and channels stress away from the lens, protecting the critical optical components during slide cycling, recoil events, and field handling. The Type 2 electronics package represents a redesign from the original RMR, with proven performance on slide-ride pistol applications, carbine top rails, and auxiliary optic mounts. This adjustable LED variant puts illumination control in your hands—side-mounted buttons adjust brightness across eight settings, toggle between manual and automatic modes, and power down the unit for storage.

Behind the Glass

The 1.0 MOA dot is the smallest reticle Trijicon offers in the adjustable LED RMR lineup. That fine aiming point allows shooters to resolve targets at distances where larger dots would obscure detail—ideal for long-range pistol work, carbine applications, and any scenario where sub-MOA hold precision matters. The automatic brightness mode uses an ambient light sensor to adjust dot intensity in real time, matching conditions from indoor low-light to full sun. Manual mode holds your selected brightness setting for 16.5 hours after the last button press, then defaults back to automatic to ensure the optic is ready for your next range session or duty shift. A button lockout feature disables manual adjustments, preventing inadvertent brightness changes during carry or movement. All RMR Type 2 adjustable LED sights are compatible with night vision devices—the dot remains visible through Gen 2 and Gen 3 tubes without blooming.

The RMR Type 2 shares the same physical dimensions and mounting footprint as the original RMR Type 1, so existing mounts, adapter plates, and milled slides remain compatible. For pistols with factory optic cuts—Glock MOS, Springfield OSP, Walther PDP, H&K VP9 Optics Ready—a Trijicon mounting kit (AC32064) is required to achieve proper co-witness height and secure fastening. Best Use Cases

The 1.0 MOA dot makes this RMR variant best suited for applications where precision outweighs speed at close range. Long-range pistol competitors running .357 SIG or 10mm Auto at 50+ yards benefit from the fine aiming point. Carbine shooters mounting the RMR as an offset or backup optic gain a precise hold for headshots or distant confirmation. Hunters using thermal or night vision as primary glass can run the RMR as a backup sighting system without losing fine-target capability. For general-purpose slide-ride use on duty or concealed carry pistols, most shooters prefer the 3.25 MOA or 6.5 MOA dots—faster target acquisition inside 25 yards, less concern about dot obscuration on torso-sized targets.

At the Range

Mount the RMR to a clean, degreased mounting surface using blue Loctite 243 on the screws. Torque mounting screws to 18 inch-pounds—overtightening risks cracking the optic housing or stripping adapter plate threads. Zero the optic at your chosen distance (25 yards for pistols, 50 or 100 yards for carbines). Each click of windage or elevation moves point of impact 1 MOA, so a 1-inch shift at 100 yards requires four clicks. In manual mode, brightness setting 4 or 5 works for most outdoor daylight conditions; setting 7 or 8 handles full sun or snow glare. In automatic mode, the sensor adjusts brightness every few seconds—if you transition from bright outdoor light to a covered shooting bay, allow 2-3 seconds for the dot to dim. The CR2032 battery lasts 4+ years in automatic mode with average use. Replace the battery annually if you store the optic in manual mode or run it on maximum brightness settings regularly. Clean the lens with a microfiber cloth and lens cleaner—avoid solvents that degrade the anti-reflective coating.

Safe Handling & Compliance

Optical sights do not replace safe firearms handling. Verify your firearm is unloaded before mounting or zeroing any optic. Electronic sights can fail due to battery depletion, impact damage, or moisture intrusion—always maintain proficiency with backup iron sights.

  • Treat every firearm as if it is loaded. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire. Never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy. Know your target and what lies beyond it.
  • Confirm that mounting screws do not protrude into the barrel channel or firing pin channel before live fire. Verify zero after installation and after any impact or drop.
  • For slide-mounted pistol optics, ensure the mounting plate is designed for your specific pistol model and that screws are torqued to specification. Loose optics can shift zero or damage the slide.
