The Super Tricon Trigger is a two-stage drop-in trigger system engineered by Geissele Automatics in partnership with Jeff Gonzales of Trident Concepts. You get a measured first stage at 2.75–3 pounds, followed by a distinct second-stage break at 1.5–1.75 pounds — a pull profile designed to balance speed and control in tactical and defensive shooting. The hybrid bow features a ribbed contact surface for consistent finger placement, and the full-power hammer spring ensures reliable ignition with all primers, including mil-spec and hard primers. Tool steel construction across hammer, trigger, and disconnector delivers longevity under high round counts.
How It Works
The two-stage mechanism splits your trigger press into two distinct phases. The first stage takes up slack with light resistance, letting you stage the trigger before the shot. The second stage presents a crisp, clean break — what Geissele and Gonzales describe as a “carrot-like” profile, meaning you feel a slight increase in resistance before a predictable release point. This design reduces the risk of unintentional discharge during rapid presentations while preserving the short reset needed for follow-up shots. The ribbed bow gives tactile feedback through gloves or cold fingers. All Geissele triggers are manufactured in-house, with tolerances held to aerospace-grade standards and a nickel-boron coating on the hammer and trigger for corrosion resistance and reduced friction.
Technical Breakdown

| Pull weight | 1st stage: 2.75–3 lbs. | 2nd stage: 1.5–1.75 lbs. |
| Shoe | Hybrid bow, ribbed surface |
| Material | Tool steel |
| Finish | Nickel-boron (hammer, trigger) |
| Drop-in | Yes (mil-spec AR15/AR10) |
| Compliance | Semi-automatic (one round per pull) |
| Manufacturer | Geissele Automatics |
The Super Tricon fits any mil-spec AR15 or AR10 lower receiver. It is not compatible with Sig MPX/MCX or pistol-caliber carbine variants due to different hammer geometry. The full-power hammer spring is required to maintain reliability with all primer types — do not substitute lighter springs. For more triggers in this family, see our Geissele trigger category.
Who It’s For
This trigger suits duty shooters, defensive carbine users, and competitive shooters who want predictable control without sacrificing reset speed. The two-stage pull helps you manage shot timing under stress, and the ribbed bow provides consistent finger placement whether you’re wearing gloves, shooting in cold weather, or transitioning rapidly between targets. The pull weight is light enough for precision but heavy enough to meet most agency armorer specs for duty use. If you run an AR15 or AR10 in roles where safety and accuracy both matter — patrol, competition, home defense — the Super Tricon balances both requirements.
Build Notes
Installation requires removal of the factory fire control group. Drive out the hammer and trigger pins, remove the old components, and install the Super Tricon assembly per Geissele’s instructions (included). Use a slave pin or trigger jig to pre-assemble the hammer, trigger, and disconnector before inserting them into the lower. After installation, conduct a function check: verify that the hammer follows the bolt carrier when the trigger is held to the rear, that the disconnector catches the hammer on reset, and that the safety selector engages properly in both safe and fire positions. Apply a light coat of oil to bearing surfaces — do not over-lubricate, as excess oil attracts carbon buildup. Avoid dry-firing excessively on an empty chamber; use a snap cap to protect the firing pin.
Safe Handling & Compliance
Per current ATF guidance, this trigger is classified as a semi-automatic trigger assembly — each round fired requires a discrete trigger function, and the device does not convert a firearm to automatic fire. Regulatory status has changed before and may change again; verify current federal and state law before ordering.
- Follow the four rules of firearm safety at all times — treat every firearm as loaded, never point at anything you’re not willing to destroy, keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire, and know your target and what’s beyond it.
- Verify state and local compliance — some jurisdictions restrict aftermarket triggers below a minimum pull weight. States with documented restrictions include California (certain configurations), New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Hawaii, Illinois (certain municipalities), and Maryland (certain counties). Confirm current law in your area.
- After installation, perform a thorough function check to ensure the hammer catches properly on safe, that the disconnector engages during cycling, and that the trigger resets cleanly. If any malfunction occurs, remove the trigger and consult a qualified gunsmith.
