When you chamber 30-06 Springfield ammo in a hunting rifle, you’re running a cartridge with a century of field-proven performance across every North American game species. Remington’s Core-Lokt load delivers 180 grain jacketed soft point projectiles at 2700 feet per second, producing 2913 foot-pounds of muzzle energy — enough retained momentum to anchor deer, elk, black bear, and moose inside 300 yards when you place the shot correctly. The 30-06 Springfield remains one of the most versatile centerfire rifle cartridges in production, balancing moderate recoil with terminal effectiveness across game weights from 100 to 800 pounds.
Performance at a Glance
The Remington Core-Lokt projectile uses a tapered copper jacket mechanically locked to a lead core, designed to retain 65-75% of original weight on impact with bone and tissue. The soft point exposes the lead tip, initiating expansion at velocities above 1800 fps. At 2700 fps from a 22- or 24-inch barrel, this 180 grain load retains supersonic velocity past 400 yards and delivers over 1500 foot-pounds of energy at 200 yards — sufficient terminal performance for ethical one-shot kills on large-bodied game when you match shot placement to vitals.

Brass cases accept standard large rifle primers for handloading. Boxer priming simplifies decapping and case prep if you reload this brass after initial firing. For hunters running bolt-action or semi-automatic rifles chambered in 30-06 ammo, this load cycles reliably and produces consistent point-of-impact across multiple lots when zeroed at 100 or 200 yards.
Safe Handling & Compliance
Federal law requires purchasers to be at least 18 years old for rifle and shotgun ammunition, and at least 21 for handgun ammunition. Ammunition cannot be shipped to certain states, counties, and cities — review our ammunition shipping restrictions before ordering. Store ammunition in a cool, dry location away from heat sources and out of reach of unauthorized users.
- Follow the four rules of firearm safety at all times when handling firearms and live ammunition.
- Verify current state and local ammunition purchasing laws in your jurisdiction before ordering — some states restrict online ammunition sales or require face-to-face transfer through an FFL.
- This ammunition contains lead components. Per California Proposition 65, lead exposure during handling or firing can cause cancer and reproductive harm. Wash hands thoroughly after range sessions and avoid inhaling combustion residue.
