The Lightfield Home Defender is a 12 gauge less lethal rubber slug intended for close-range defensive use — situations where you want the authority of a shotgun without the terminal effects of lead or copper. This load fires a 75-grain rubber projectile at 850 feet per second, producing 120 foot-pounds of muzzle energy. The 1.25-inch diameter star-shaped slug flexes on impact, collapsing against the target and dispersing its energy across a wider surface area than a solid projectile. Effective range is limited to approximately 15 yards; beyond that distance, the lightweight rubber slug sheds velocity and energy rapidly.
Performance at a Glance
Lightfield machines this less-lethal load using a non-toxic rubber compound molded into a six-point star profile. The flexible geometry allows the projectile to deform on contact, distributing impact force over a larger area than traditional slugs. The 2-3/4-inch shell uses a boxer primer and a six-point star crimp, and it is reloadable. While classified as less lethal, this ammunition can still cause serious injury or death depending on distance, shot placement, and target physiology — treat it with the same respect you give any defensive load.

This load functions in both rifled and smooth bore barrels. The rubber slug’s low mass and flexible construction mean it loses effectiveness rapidly past 15 yards — reserve this ammunition for indoor distances where you want to minimize the risk of over-penetration. Safe Handling & Compliance
Federal law requires purchasers to be at least 18 years old for rifle and shotgun ammunition, and at least 21 for handgun ammunition. Ammunition cannot be shipped to certain states, counties, and cities — review our ammunition shipping restrictions before ordering. Store ammunition in a cool, dry location away from heat sources and out of reach of unauthorized users.
- Observe the four fundamental rules of firearm safety: treat every firearm as loaded, never point at anything you are not willing to destroy, keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire, and know your target and what is beyond it. Review the NRA’s Four Rules for a detailed breakdown.
- Verify that less-lethal ammunition is legal in your jurisdiction before ordering. Some states and municipalities restrict or prohibit rubber projectiles and other non-standard defensive loads — check current state and local statutes.
- Less-lethal does not mean non-injurious. This ammunition can cause serious injury or death depending on distance, shot placement, and target physiology. Always aim for center mass or lower extremities, never the head or neck. Distance to target, clothing, and body weight all affect outcomes.
