When you’re zeroing in on varmints at extended range, the Hornady Varmint Express 22-250 Remington load pairs a 55-grain V-Max polymer tip with a velocity profile engineered for flat flight and rapid expansion on contact. The 22-250 Remington cartridge is a necked-down .250 Savage case optimized for high-velocity centerfire rifle platforms—bolt-action or semi-auto—and this particular load clocks 3680 feet per second from a 24-inch test barrel, producing 1654 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle. That translates to minimal holdover inside 250 yards and enough hydrostatic shock to anchor coyotes, foxes, and burrowing rodents without pass-through waste on fur.

The polymer tip initiates expansion at varmint-typical impact velocities while the thin jacket and lead core fragment on contact, maximizing energy dump in small-bodied targets. Brass cases are boxer-primed and reloadable, making this a practical choice for high-volume shooters who reload.
