Hornady Precision Hunter 243 Winchester hunting ammo pairs the 90-grain ELD-X bullet with clean-burning propellant loaded to uniform capacity. You get 3150 fps from a 24-inch test barrel, 1983 ft-lbs of muzzle energy, and a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.409 verified by Doppler radar. The Heat Shield polymer tip resists aerodynamic heating, holding its shape through supersonic flight to maintain downrange energy. For whitetail, pronghorn, and varmint hunters working fields and timber, this 243 Winchester hunting ammo extends your effective range while keeping groups tight. Hornady engineers each lot for shot-to-shot consistency regardless of temperature, so your zero holds from the September dove opener through late-season rifle hunts.

Load Profile

The ELD-X (Extremely Low Drag–eXpanding) bullet uses a streamlined secant ogive, optimized boattail, and concentric AMP jacket. On high-velocity impacts inside 400 yards, the bullet expands continuously through the penetration path. The thick jacket shank and InterLock ring lock core to copper, retaining 50-60% of original weight and creating wide wound channels. Beyond 400 yards, as velocity drops, the Heat Shield tip drives rearward to initiate controlled expansion—mushrooming to 85-90% retained weight for deep penetration and large permanent cavities. Brass case and Boxer primer allow you to reload spent hulls. Non-corrosive propellant burns clean, reducing fouling between strings.
