For hunters pushing 44 Magnum revolvers or lever guns into hardwood ridges and pine thickets, Hornady Custom 200-grain XTP ammunition brings factory-loaded precision with controlled expansion engineered for medium game at handgun distances. The Hornady XTP (eXtreme Terminal Performance) projectile anchors this load — a jacketed hollow point built around six radial serrations that fracture the jacket into symmetrical petals without fragmenting at magnum velocities. At 1500 feet per second from a revolver barrel and 999 foot-pounds of muzzle energy, this 44 Magnum ammo sits in the sweet spot for whitetail, hogs, and black bear inside 75 yards.
Performance at a Glance
Hornady machines each XTP bullet from a swaged lead core and drawn copper jacket, then adds a cannelure mid-body to lock core and jacket together under recoil and ensure the case mouth crimps securely during loading. The result: consistent ignition, uniform powder burn, and predictable terminal performance whether you’re running a 7.5-inch Ruger or a 16-inch Marlin carbine. Boxer primers and reloadable brass cases let you recover spent hulls for handloading, and every round passes hand inspection before leaving the factory floor in Grand Island, Nebraska.

The six-serration design controls petal spread from 800 fps (reduced loads) to full-power magnum velocities, making this load versatile across platforms — revolver hunters get reliable expansion at typical handgun speeds, while carbine shooters running 16-inch barrels see consistent penetration without jacket separation. Stock up for deer season or hog control; each 20-round box ships with non-corrosive Boxer primers that simplify reloading after your hunt. Browse all 44 magnum ammo in stock at Tatted Tacticals.
