The Hevi-Shot Hevi-Hammer Upland 12 gauge load layers bismuth pellets over steel shot to deliver pattern density and velocity that steel alone cannot match. Hevi-Shot casts bismuth in-house alongside tungsten, then engineers a layered payload: bismuth on top, steel beneath, 1-1/4 oz total at 1350 fps from a 2-3/4″ hull. The result: tighter patterns at range, more pellets on target, and lethal performance on upland birds, dove, and small game in non-toxic zones. Hevi-Shot Hevi-Hammer is density engineering for hunters who want more reach without paying for pure bismuth.
Performance at a Glance
Bismuth’s higher density than steel means each pellet carries more energy and resists wind drift better. Layering bismuth over steel in a single load combines the affordability of steel with the ballistic advantage of bismuth. At 1350 fps, this load drives #3 shot fast enough for crossing shots on pheasant, quail, and dove out to 40 yards. The Boxer primer and 6-point star crimp ensure reliable ignition and consistent patterns. These shells are reloadable, though most hunters running non-toxic zones will burn through inventory faster than they reload.

Safe Handling & Compliance
Federal law requires purchasers to be at least 18 years old for rifle and shotgun ammunition, and at least 21 for handgun ammunition. Ammunition cannot be shipped to certain states, counties, and cities — review our ammunition shipping restrictions before ordering. Store ammunition in a cool, dry location away from heat sources and out of reach of unauthorized users.
- Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, finger off the trigger until ready to fire, and positively identify your target and what lies beyond it.
- Verify that non-toxic shot is required in your hunting zone and that bismuth-steel loads are permitted — some refuges restrict bismuth alloys.
- Store shells in original packaging, away from moisture and heat, to maintain crimp integrity and powder stability.
