For handgun hunters facing dangerous game, the Grizzly Cartridge Bear Load in 45 Colt delivers a 265-grain Cast Performance Wide Flat Nose Gas Check bullet engineered for deep penetration. This Bear Load round — a purpose-built hunting cartridge in the 45 Colt (Long Colt) chambering — produces 950 feet per second muzzle velocity and 531 foot-pounds of energy from reloadable brass cases. Grizzly Cartridge Company loads this ammunition with flash-suppressed powder and subjects each production run to inspection by the company’s founder, ensuring lot-to-lot consistency. Cast from virgin alloy in LBT-style molds, the Cast Performance bullet undergoes heat-treating to prevent fragmentation on bone and thick hide — a requirement when close-range stopping power outweighs expansion considerations.
Built for the Box
Grizzly Cartridge manufactures each round with a Boxer-primed brass case — non-corrosive and reloadable for shooters who want to tailor their loads. The 265-grain flat nose bullet’s gas check base reduces leading in revolvers with forcing cones cut for cast projectiles, and the wide flat profile maximizes tissue disruption on impact. At 950 fps, this load runs below most +P pressures while still delivering meaningful terminal performance within 50 yards — the typical engagement distance for hunting with 45 Colt revolvers or carbines.

Grizzly Cartridge loads this Bear Load specifically for hunters who carry revolvers or lever-action carbines in bear or hog country. The 265-grain bullet’s flat nose and gas check construction balance weight retention with feeding reliability, and the flash-suppressed powder minimizes muzzle signature in low-light conditions.
