The Geissele SSF HK416 trigger is a non-adjustable, select-fire mechanism purpose-built for the Heckler & Koch 416 platform. Geissele designed this trigger at the request of the U.S. Special Operations Community to provide a two-stage pull in semi-automatic mode and a single-stage pull in full-automatic mode — dual-mode operation that delivers precision on single shots and smooth cycling during sustained fire. If you run an HK416 in a select-fire role, the SSF® addresses the distinct trigger-feel requirements of both firing modes without compromise.

How It Works

In semi-automatic mode, the SSF® presents a two-stage pull: 2.75-3 lbs in the first stage, then 1.5-1.75 lbs in the second stage, totaling 4.25-4.75 lbs. This two-stage configuration gives you a tactile wall before break, which aids shot-to-shot consistency when you’re prioritizing accuracy. When you rotate the selector to full-automatic, the trigger converts to a single-stage mechanism with a 6.0 lbs pull weight. The single-stage character in full-auto eliminates the first-stage travel, delivering an abrupt hammer release that supports rapid, continuous cycling without stacking or creep. The SSF® is built to mil-spec standards using hardened steel components — Geissele machines the sear and hammer engagement surfaces to tight tolerances, then heat-treats them to ensure the geometry holds under high-volume fire schedules.

The SSF® is platform-specific — it will not fit Sig MPX/MCX rifles or pistol-caliber AR15 variants. For those platforms, Geissele offers the Super MCX SSA and Super MPX SSA triggers. Installation requires HK416 armorer familiarity; after you seat the trigger pack, cock the hammer to engage the safety — this differs from the factory HK trigger, which permits safe-selector engagement with the hammer forward. You’ll find more Geissele trigger options in our catalog if you’re building or upgrading other platforms.

Matching It to Your Build

This trigger serves military and law enforcement armorers who maintain select-fire HK416 rifles for special-operations units. The two-stage semi-auto pull supports precision marksmanship during deliberate engagements, while the single-stage full-auto configuration reduces trigger manipulation during suppressive fire or room-clearing evolutions. If your agency issues HK416 carbines and you hold the appropriate SOT credentials to work on select-fire weapons, the SSF® is an upgrade path that addresses feedback from end-users who want better trigger feel in both firing modes. Civilian shooters with registered HK416 lower receivers (pre-1986 transferable machine guns) can also install the SSF®, provided they comply with NFA registration and transfer requirements.

Field Use Tips

After installation, verify function in both semi-auto and full-auto modes using dummy rounds before live fire. The SSF® uses hardened engagement surfaces, but sustained full-auto strings generate heat — monitor the trigger pack for carbon buildup around the hammer pivot and sear spring. Clean the trigger group with a non-chlorinated solvent and re-lubricate pivot points with a high-temperature firearms grease after every 1,000 rounds of full-auto fire or 5,000 rounds of semi-auto fire. During selector manipulation, rotate the lever decisively between positions — partial engagement between semi and full can cause out-of-battery conditions. Store the rifle with the hammer forward and selector on safe to relieve spring tension when the weapon is not in active use.

Safe Handling & Compliance

Per current ATF guidance, the Geissele SSF® is a select-fire trigger assembly designed for use in NFA-registered machine guns. Installation in a select-fire HK416 lower receiver requires compliance with 26 U.S.C. § 5861 (possession of an unregistered machine gun is a federal felony). Only FFL/SOT dealers or individuals holding a registered, transferable lower receiver may lawfully install and operate this trigger. Verify current federal and state law before ordering.

  • Know your four rules: Treat every weapon as loaded, never point the muzzle at anything you don’t intend to destroy, keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target, and be certain of your target and what lies beyond it. Review the NSSF four rules of firearms safety before handling any firearm.
  • State and local restrictions: Some states prohibit civilian possession of machine guns outright, even if federally registered. Verify compliance with state law in your jurisdiction and any jurisdiction to which you transport the weapon.
  • Installation warning: HK416 trigger packs require specialized tooling and armorer-level knowledge. Improper installation can result in out-of-battery discharge or unintended full-auto fire. If you lack HK platform experience, have a qualified armorer perform the installation and function check.
