The Fiocchi Dove and Quail 12 gauge steel shot is a 2-3/4″ shell loaded with 1 oz of #7 steel pellets, launched at 1200 fps from a smooth bore. Steel shot — a non-toxic alternative to lead — is federally mandated for waterfowl and required in many state wildlife management areas, city parks, and dove zones near water. Fiocchi treats the steel shot to increase surface hardness, helping pellets stay rounder in flight and penetrate feather and bone at ranges typical of dove and quail hunting. The Boxer primer is non-corrosive and the hull is reloadable, allowing you to recover empties for future use. A 6-point star crimp seals the shell.
Built for the Box
Fiocchi loads this ammunition at their Ozark, Missouri plant using clean-burning powder formulated to minimize fouling in semi-automatic and pump shotguns. The 1 oz payload is un-buffered — the steel shot sits directly in the wad cup, which cushions acceleration and protects barrel walls. At 1200 fps, the load generates moderate recoil suitable for extended shooting sessions, and the velocity is sufficient to anchor dove out to 35 yards and quail to 30 yards when you lead the bird correctly. The 2-3/4″ shell chambers in all 12 gauge shotguns, including older fixed-choke guns.

Steel #7 approximates the pattern density of lead #8 — roughly 353 pellets per ounce — and is legal for use on dove, quail, pheasant, rabbit, and squirrel in lead-free zones. Check your shotgun’s choke tube markings: many older tubes are not rated for steel and can bulge or split. Use only chokes marked “steel shot approved” or open chokes (Improved Cylinder, Modified) if you are unsure. Browse additional non-toxic options in our steel shot shells category.
Safe Handling & Compliance
Federal law requires purchasers to be at least 18 years old for rifle and shotgun ammunition, and at least 21 for handgun ammunition. Ammunition cannot be shipped to certain states, counties, and cities — review our ammunition shipping restrictions before ordering. Store ammunition in a cool, dry location away from heat sources and out of reach of unauthorized users.
- Treat every firearm as if it is loaded. Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction at all times. Review the four rules of firearms safety.
- Verify that steel shot is permitted in your hunting area and that your shotgun and choke tubes are rated for steel shot before loading.
- This product can expose you to lead (present in the primer), which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov. Wash hands after handling.
