Federal Premium Grand Slam Turkey 20 gauge loads deliver dense, consistent patterns for spring and fall turkey hunters running lighter-recoiling platforms. This 3-inch shell launches 1-5/16 ounces of copper-plated #5 lead shot at 1185 feet per second—velocity engineered to balance pattern density with manageable recoil in 20-gauge autoloaders and pumps. The FLITECONTROL FLEX wad is the engineering centerpiece: segmented petals open on exit, releasing the shot column in a controlled, gradual dispersion that maintains pellet concentration at 30 to 40 yards. Unlike conventional wads that dump payload immediately, the FLEX design keeps more pellets in the vitals zone of a gobbler’s head and neck. The wad works through both standard and ported turkey chokes, eliminating the trial-and-error of wad-choke compatibility that plagues other turkey loads.
Performance at a Glance
Copper plating reduces pellet-to-pellet friction during barrel transit and hardening the shot surface against deformation on impact with choke constrictions. Federal buffers the shot column with a granular compound that cushions individual pellets during acceleration, further preserving roundness. Round pellets fly true; deformed pellets flyer. The roll crimp and clear card wad sandwich the buffering material in place, preventing it from migrating during storage or rough handling in a vest pocket. Boxer primers ignite consistently across temperature swings. Reloadable hulls extend the per-round cost for handloaders.

Federal Premium has held the spring turkey market for decades; this Grand Slam load is a refinement of the original FLITECONTROL platform, adapted for the narrower bore diameter and 3-inch chamber length common in 20-gauge turkey guns. Safe Handling & Compliance
Federal law requires purchasers to be at least 18 years old for rifle and shotgun ammunition, and at least 21 for handgun ammunition. Ammunition cannot be shipped to certain states, counties, and cities — review our ammunition shipping restrictions before ordering. Store ammunition in a cool, dry location away from heat sources and out of reach of unauthorized users.
- Treat every firearm as if it is loaded; keep muzzle pointed in a safe direction at all times.
- Verify your state and local regulations before purchasing lead shot ammunition—some jurisdictions restrict or prohibit lead shot for waterfowl or upland game.
- This product contains lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm (Prop 65). Wash hands after handling ammunition and components.
