For AR-15 builders running 300 Blackout loads across the spectrum — from 220-grain subsonic to 110-grain supersonic — the DDM4 300 S Upper Receiver Group provides a factory-assembled solution that addresses gas port tuning, barrel twist, and rail real estate in a single package. A DDM4 300 S upper receiver is a complete upper assembly: forged 7075-T6 receiver, barrel, gas system, handguard, and charging handle shipped as one serialized component. Daniel Defense machines each receiver to MIL-SPEC dimensions and pairs it with a cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel optimized for the .300 BLK cartridge’s short case and wide projectile weight range. The assembly ships ready to mate with any MIL-SPEC lower receiver, giving builders a proven upper that requires no headspacing, no gas block alignment, and no hand-guard timing.
Out of the Box
Daniel Defense builds the DDM4 300 S around a barrel designed to stabilize both ends of the 300 Blackout performance envelope. The cold hammer-forged barrel features a 1:7 twist rate, fast enough to stabilize heavy subsonic projectiles without over-spinning lighter supersonic loads. Chrome lining extends barrel life and resists fouling when switching between powder-coated subsonic rounds and jacketed supersonic loads in the same session. The gas system runs carbine-length, a compromise that provides sufficient dwell time for reliable cycling with subsonic ammunition while avoiding the excessive gas impulse that can accompany pistol-length systems when firing supersonic loads. The forged upper receiver is Type III hard-coat anodized, and the M-LOK handguard provides attachment points at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock without adding the weight of a full quad-rail.
The Numbers

| Spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Caliber | 300 Blackout |
| Barrel Length | 10.3″ (assumed short-barrel configuration) |
| Barrel Profile | Cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined |
| Twist Rate | 1:7″ |
| Gas System | Carbine-length |
| Receiver Material | Forged 7075-T6 aluminum |
| Finish | Type III hard-coat anodized |
| Handguard | M-LOK free-float rail |
| Platform | AR-15 (MIL-SPEC lower compatible) |
| Manufacturer | Daniel Defense |
This upper receiver group integrates into the AR-15 upper ecosystem without proprietary tooling. Builders supply their own MIL-SPEC lower receiver, bolt carrier group, and optic to complete the build. The M-LOK handguard accepts standard rail sections for lights, lasers, or foregrips, and the carbine-length gas system provides tuning headroom for shooters who plan to run the upper suppressed full-time or split duty between suppressed subsonic and unsuppressed supersonic loads.
Who It’s For
The DDM4 300 S fits builders who want a factory-tuned 300 Blackout upper without the trial-and-error of gas port sizing and barrel selection. It serves suppressor users who need reliable cycling with subsonic ammunition, hog hunters running supersonic loads in short-barrel configurations, and home-defense applications where the 300 Blackout’s case geometry and projectile options offer terminal performance in a compact package. Builders working toward an SBR stamp or running the upper on a pistol lower will find the carbine-length gas system less punishing than pistol-length alternatives.
Safe Handling & Compliance
All firearms sold by Tatted Tacticals require transfer through a licensed Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL07) dealer. We ship to your designated FFL, where you complete ATF Form 4473 and a NICS background check before taking possession. Some states require additional state-level background checks, permits, or waiting periods — verify current requirements in your jurisdiction before ordering.
- Treat every firearm as if it is loaded; keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire; never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy; be certain of your target and what lies beyond it. Review the four rules of firearm safety before handling any firearm.
- Federal law prohibits attaching a rifle-length barrel and stock to a lower receiver originally transferred as a pistol without first registering the firearm as a short-barreled rifle (SBR) via ATF Form 1. Verify your lower receiver’s original configuration and comply with NFA regulations before assembling any upper/lower combination that results in a barrel length under 16″ with an attached stock.
- When switching between subsonic and supersonic 300 Blackout ammunition, visually and physically confirm the correct cartridge before loading. Chambering a 300 Blackout round in a 5.56 NATO chamber — or vice versa — can result in catastrophic failure. Label magazines by load type and inspect each round during loading.
