When you’re hunting small game or fur-bearers where pelt quality and edible meat matter, fragmenting varmint bullets cost you money. The CCI GamePoint 17 HMR uses a dimple-tip jacketed hollow point that mushrooms like a centerfire hunting bullet instead of grenading on impact. That controlled expansion punches through hide and bone, then transfers energy without destroying the backstrap on a squirrel or shredding a fox pelt. Chambered in 17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire, each 20 grain projectile leaves the muzzle at 2375 feet per second, carrying 250 foot-pounds of energy—enough to anchor raccoon at 100 yards and coyote inside 125, with a trajectory flat enough that you hold dead-on at practical distances.
Built for the Box
CCI manufactures this ammunition in Lewiston, Idaho, using drawn brass cases, non-corrosive priming, and jacketed hollow point bullets with the proprietary dimple tip. The jacket controls upset: instead of the bullet breaking into a dozen fragments at 2300+ fps impact velocity, the nose opens into a classic mushroom that retains 85–90 percent of its weight. That weight retention drives penetration through the chest cavity of a cottontail or the shoulder of a groundhog, depositing energy where it counts without exit wounds the size of a golf ball. Each 50-round box ships in polymer trays; this 500-round case includes ten boxes. Lead core, supersonic velocity, made in the USA.

This load sits between true varmint rounds (17-grain polymer-tip at 2550 fps) and heavier hunting bullets (20-grain soft-point at lower velocity). The dimple tip gives you the best of both: varmint-class speed for flat shooting, hunting-class expansion for clean kills without pelt destruction. Pair it with any bolt-action or semi-auto rifle chambered in 17 HMR ammo—CZ 457, Savage B-Mag, Ruger 77/17, Volquartsen semi-auto—and zero at 75 yards for a point-blank range that covers most small-game and predator scenarios.
