Buffalo Bore 50 Action Express ammo in 325-grain jacketed hollow point configuration represents a SAAMI-maximum hunting load designed for modern firearms — specifically the Desert Eagle and similar platforms manufactured to withstand the 50 AE’s substantial chamber pressures. This cartridge is a semi-automatic pistol round developed by Magnum Research in the 1980s, engineered to deliver rifle-like energy from a handgun. At 1450 feet per second and 1517 foot-pounds of muzzle energy, this load sits at the upper threshold of what the platform was designed to handle, making it unsuitable for older or weakened actions. You’re running flash-suppressed powder to preserve night vision in low-light hunting scenarios, boxer-primed brass cases for straightforward reloading, and non-corrosive primer chemistry for long-term storage reliability.
Performance at a Glance
Buffalo Bore manufactures this ammunition to maximum SAAMI specifications, prioritizing terminal energy over mild recoil. The 325-grain JHP expands on impact while retaining enough sectional density to penetrate heavy bone and muscle on medium game. You’re looking at a reloadable brass case, which matters when you’re paying premium prices for 50 AE fodder — save your brass and seat fresh projectiles once you’ve run through the initial 20 rounds.

This load sits in the heavy-for-caliber range within the 50 AE spectrum, where you trade some velocity for penetration and energy retention. For hunting white-tailed deer or feral hogs at handgun distances, the 325-grain projectile provides adequate sectional density to reach vitals through heavy shoulder bone.
