Buffalo Bore loads the 45 Colt +P to deliver 1325 feet per second from a 300 grain jacketed flat nose projectile — an energy package of 1170 foot-pounds at the muzzle. This is a hunting-specific load engineered for terminal performance on medium to large game at handgun and carbine distances. The cartridge overall length (OAL) exceeds SAAMI minimums, which means it chambers cleanly in large-frame Ruger single-action revolvers (Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk, all pre-2005 Vaqueros, Bisley) and the Ruger Redhawk double-action. It also feeds and cycles in modern lever-action rifles chambered in 45 Colt — Winchester Model 1892 reproductions, Marlin 1894, and other current-production lever guns built after 1985. Do not use this ammunition in the New Model Vaquero (post-2005 small frame), Freedom Arms Model 97, or any firearm manufactured before 1900. The +P designation indicates pressures up to maximum SAAMI spec for this cartridge, and older or lighter frames were not engineered for sustained use at these pressures.
Load Profile
The 300 grain jacketed flat nose (JFN) bullet delivers deep, straight-line penetration through muscle and bone without the rapid expansion seen in hollow-point designs. Flat-nose geometry creates a larger permanent wound channel than round-nose projectiles of the same weight, and the full metal jacket construction resists deformation on impact with heavy bone or hide. Muzzle velocity of 1325 fps from a seven-and-a-half-inch revolver barrel translates to approximately 1450 fps from an eighteen-inch carbine barrel, extending effective range and increasing energy on target. The boxer-primed brass cases are reloadable for handloaders who wish to tailor charge weights or substitute projectiles for specific game or shooting conditions.

Safe Handling & Compliance
Federal law requires purchasers to be at least 18 years old for rifle and shotgun ammunition, and at least 21 for handgun ammunition. Ammunition cannot be shipped to certain states, counties, and cities — review our ammunition shipping restrictions before ordering. Store ammunition in a cool, dry location away from heat sources and out of reach of unauthorized users.
- Follow the four universal rules of firearm safety at all times: treat every firearm as if it is loaded, never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy, keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have decided to fire, and be certain of your target and what lies beyond it.
- Verify that your firearm is rated for +P ammunition before loading and firing this product. Consult your firearm’s owner’s manual or contact the manufacturer if you are uncertain about pressure ratings.
- This ammunition contains lead, a substance known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm (Proposition 65). Wash hands thoroughly after handling ammunition and components. Use adequate ventilation when shooting indoors.
