Buffalo Bore 44 Special self-defense ammo pairs the Barnes TAC-XP 200-grain solid copper hollow point with flash-retardant powder and full-power loading. This is 44 Special ammunition engineered for controlled expansion and straight-line penetration — 16 to 18 inches in calibrated gelatin. The all-copper construction eliminates lead exposure at the range and in the field, while the hollow-point cavity ensures consistent petal formation on impact. Buffalo Bore loads to maximum SAAMI specifications, so velocity stays honest across barrel lengths: 1091 fps from a 5.5-inch Ruger Super Blackhawk, 1070 fps from a 4-inch Smith & Wesson Mountain Gun, 1036 fps from a 3-inch Model 396, and 1017 fps from a 2-inch Model 296. Safe for modern 44 Special and 44 Magnum revolvers — not for use in Charter Arms Bull Dog or older weak-frame guns.
Load Profile
The Barnes TAC-XP is a monolithic copper projectile with a recessed hollow point and scored petals. Copper retains 99-100% of its weight on impact, delivering deeper penetration than equivalent lead-core bullets. The 200-grain weight balances velocity and momentum — light enough to reach 1100 fps, heavy enough to drive through bone and heavy clothing. Flash-retardant powder keeps muzzle flash manageable in low light, preserving night vision during rapid-fire strings. Brass cases accept standard large pistol primers and reload cleanly. Buffalo Bore publishes real-world velocities from production firearms, not laboratory test barrels — the numbers you see are the numbers you get.
