Ameriglo Glock sights use tritium gas lamp technology to deliver self-luminous aiming points when ambient light drops below usable levels. The three sight sets covered here — SW-809, SW-611, and SW-411 — share the same front dovetail fitment and rear sight width, differing primarily in dot color and outline configuration. Tritium isotope decay produces a constant glow rated for 12 years from manufacture date, requiring no batteries or external charging. Shooters running Glock pistols in defensive, duty, or competition roles gain 24-hour sight visibility without adding bulk or electronics to the slide.
Behind the Glass
Each Ameriglo sight body is CNC-machined from steel bar stock, then treated with a corrosion-resistant finish. Tritium vials are press-fit into drilled cavities and sealed with an optical-grade lens that protects the gas from impact and environmental contamination. The front sight measures 0.140″ in width; rear notch holds a 0.165″ aperture, yielding adequate daylight gap for rapid target transitions. Installation follows the Glock factory dovetail specification — 65-degree angle, 0.330″ width — meaning these sights drop into Gen3, Gen4, and Gen5 slides without modification. A nylon drift punch and bench vise handle most installs; gunsmiths charge $20–$40 if you prefer professional fitting.

The three sight sets differ in tritium vial color and paint scheme. SW-809 pairs green tritium front and rear with no outline — a three-dot configuration that some shooters prefer for equal brightness across all aiming points. SW-611 uses green tritium in the front, white tritium in the rear, with black outlines around each dot to enhance contrast against light-colored backstops. SW-411 reverses the scheme: white tritium front, green rear, black outlines. All three configurations maintain the same sight height, so point-of-impact remains consistent when swapping between models. Who It’s For
Defensive carriers running concealed Glocks gain the most immediate benefit — tritium eliminates the need to search for a light switch or wait for eyes to adapt when waking to a home intrusion. Duty officers working swing and graveyard shifts appreciate the always-on visibility during traffic stops and building searches. Competition shooters in IDPA or USPSA divisions that permit tritium sights use these for indoor bay matches where overhead lighting creates inconsistent sight picture. Hunters carrying Glock 20 or Glock 40 10mm pistols as backup guns in bear country rely on tritium for low-light shot placement if a charging animal closes distance at dawn or dusk.
Installation Notes
Remove the factory Glock sight using a nylon punch and light hammer taps, driving from left to right (shooter perspective). Clean the dovetail channel with a cotton swab and solvent to remove any thread-locker residue. Slide the new Ameriglo rear sight into the dovetail from right to left, centering it by eye, then tap the front sight in from right to left until it sits flush. Apply a drop of blue thread-locker (Loctite 242) to the front sight base if your slide lacks a friction-fit detent. Confirm zero at 7 yards; most shooters find point-of-aim equals point-of-impact with factory loads. Windage adjustments require drifting the rear sight left or right in 0.010″ increments. Height adjustments are not possible without changing to a taller or shorter front sight.
Safe Handling & Compliance
All firearms and firearm components sold by Tatted Tacticals are intended for lawful use by adults 18 years or older. Installation of aftermarket sights does not alter the legal classification of your pistol, but verify state and local laws regarding tritium possession before ordering — some jurisdictions restrict radioactive materials.
- Treat every firearm as if it is loaded. Remove the magazine and visually inspect the chamber before beginning sight installation.
- Follow federal, state, and local laws governing firearm possession, transport, and use. Some states restrict tritium night sights; confirm your jurisdiction permits tritium devices before ordering.
- Tritium vials are sealed in steel housings and pose no radiation hazard during normal use. If a sight is damaged and the vial breaks, ventilate the area and contact your local health department for disposal guidance.
