A bolt carrier group is the heart of any semi-automatic rifle — it strips a cartridge from the magazine, chambers it, locks into battery, fires, extracts, and ejects. This unit pairs a case-hardened 8620 steel carrier with a 9310 steel bolt, both finished in black nitride for corrosion resistance and reduced friction. Weighing 18 ounces and carrying full-auto profile serrations, it ships magnetic-particle inspected and high-pressure tested from Aero Precision’s Washington facility.
How It Works
Gas pressure drives the carrier rearward against a 4130 steel gas key staked with Grade 8 hardware. The cam pin rotates the bolt to unlock from the barrel extension, while a 4340 steel extractor — backed by dual springs and dual O-rings — pulls the fired case from the chamber. An 8740 steel firing pin, hard-chromed for wear resistance, strikes primers with consistent energy. Forward assist serrations cut into the carrier let you manually seat the bolt if cycling pressure drops below spec. The reduced firing pin hole (0.070 inches) and CNC-ground external surfaces ensure repeatable lockup under high chamber pressures common to the .308 family.
