The A*B Arms Pro 5.56 Bolt Assembly delivers Mil-Spec C-158 steel construction with a Nickel Boron coating engineered to reduce friction and carbon buildup inside your AR-15 bolt carrier group. A bolt assembly is the rotating component that locks into the barrel extension, extracts spent casings, and strips fresh rounds from the magazine — this one does all three with Swiss-machined precision and a surface finish that runs cleaner between maintenance intervals than phosphate or chrome alternatives.
The Mechanism
A*B Arms machines each bolt from Carpenter 158 steel, then heat treats and shot peens the assembly per military specifications before applying the Nickel Boron finish. The extractor — the claw that grips the rim of each cartridge — comes from E4140 aircraft-grade steel, heat treated and NiB coated to match the bolt body. Every unit passes magnetic particle inspection (MPI) to detect subsurface cracks before leaving the facility. American Built Arms Company supplies bolts to multiple OEM rifle manufacturers, and this commercial version carries the same tolerances used in those contracts.

This bolt assembly installs in any Mil-Spec AR-15 bolt carrier group chambered for .223 Remington or 5.56x45mm. Nickel Boron’s low coefficient of friction means you can run the bolt with minimal lubrication — carbon wipes off with a rag instead of requiring solvent soak — and the hardness of the coating resists peening at the cam pin and locking lug contact points.
Safe Handling & Compliance
Bolt assemblies are firearm components subject to the same handling and storage rules as complete firearms. Install only in rifles that have been verified clear and on a safe bench with no ammunition present.
- Follow the four rules of firearms safety during installation and function checks.
- Verify headspace with go/no-go gauges after installing any new bolt — out-of-spec headspace causes case head separations and dangerous pressure spikes.
- Inspect locking lugs and extractor for wear every 5,000 rounds; replace if cracks appear during MPI or if the extractor loses tension.
